What is Qortal?
Qortal is a fully peer-to-peer platform aiming to replace the centralized internet with a censorship-proof, community-owned alternative. Built from scratch in Java, Qortal runs its own blockchain and infrastructure, with no token dependency on Ethereum or Bitcoin.
Qortal uses its own smart contract system called Automated Transactions (ATs), written in CIYAM, enabling complex logic without third-party dependencies. It enables real decentralized apps (Q-Apps), including a video-sharing platform (Q-Tube), a P2P marketplace (Q-Shop), decentralized crowdfunding (Q-Fund), encrypted group chats, and so much more! New Q-Apps can be built by any web developer, using only Javascript and a few API calls.
Qortal launched fairly, sticking to the Web3 fundamentals, with no ICO, no pre-mine, and no VC involvement. Its native currency, QORT, is earned through time-based minting by running a full node, promoting fairness and sustainability. The project is 100% open-source and supported by a grassroots community focused on digital sovereignty and long-term value.
