What is Monero?
Monero (XMR) is an open-source cryptocurrency created in April 2014. Monero’s focus is heavily on privacy and decentralization, Monero seeks to improve upon existing cryptocurrency privacy control by obscuring sender, recipient and transaction information while also seeking to make the process of mining new coins more egalitarian.
However this focus on privacy has attracted illicit use from parties interested in evading law enforcement and the egalitarian approach to mining has made it viable for malicious hackers to covertly mine Monero through embed code in websites and apps. Despite this Monero is seen as an industry leader among privacy coins.
