Gemini Dollar are distributed and issued by the Gemini Trust Company. The token is built on top of the Ethereum platform, and is an ERC20 Standard token that is meant to be backed by US Dollars, that are held in the State Street Bank and Trust company. This token is meant to add credibility, stability and liquidity to the crypto markets.
