What is Ergo?
Ergo coin (ERG) is the native digital asset for the Ergo blockchain network. Ergo is a Proof-of-Work (PoW) blockchain with advanced cryptographic features and infrastructure including a UTXO (unspent transaction outputs) model that is more similar to Bitcoin's transaction model than the Account model used for Ethereum. Using the UTXO model Ergo calculates wallet balances based on aggregate transaction history, tracing each distinct portion of cryptocurrency back to its purchase origin to maintain an immutable ledger. UTXO enhances and simplifies network security and greatly improves compatibility with off-chain protocols. Ergo network aims to be powerful but safe, consensus-led but readily adaptable, deflationary but economically sustainable, PoW mined but protocol-funded, and research-led but real-world focused.
