What is Moonriver?
MOVR is the governance and utility token for Moonriver, a decentralized smart contract platform and parachain of Kusama, a canary network of Polkadot blockchain network created using Substrate and Polkadot codebase. Moonriver is the companion network or "CanaryNet" of Moonbeam, a smart contract platform powered by the utility token Glimmer (GLMR). New code is first built on Moonriver to be tested and verified before deployment to Moonbeam and Polkadot. Developers can deploy new or existing Solidity smart contracts and decentralized applications (DApps) to Moonriver with minimal changes and gain access to the Kusama network. Moonriver is a community led experiment with community members owning the majority of MOVR tokens used to secure the network with decentralized node infrastructure.
